FAQ

Questions worth asking first.

Including the ones a one-person studio should expect to be asked.

All questions

Who actually does the work?

The same engineer you correspond with. Northlight is an independent one-person studio, so the person who writes your proposal is the person who writes the code and answers the support mail. Nothing is passed to an unnamed subcontractor.

How does a project start?

With a short description of the problem from you, a conversation, and then a written proposal: what will be built, what it costs, when it lands, and what is explicitly out of scope. Work starts once that document is agreed.

What does it cost?

There is no price list, because a price without a scope is a guess. Fixed-scope projects are quoted as a fixed price for a written scope. Advisory work is quoted as time-boxed engagements. Either way you see the number before anything begins.

Do you take on small projects?

Yes. A week of work and a multi-month build get the same treatment: a written scope, a fixed price and a delivery date. Small projects are often the better way to find out whether working together fits.

Who owns the code?

You do. Source code is delivered into a repository you own, together with the instructions needed to build and deploy it. Nothing is withheld to make leaving harder.

What happens if a one-person studio becomes unavailable?

A fair question, and the answer is structural rather than reassuring words. Source code lives in repositories you own or have access to, deployment is documented rather than improvised, and the infrastructure accounts your software runs on can stay in your name from the start.

The intent is that another competent engineer could pick the system up from what is written down. That is a design goal of every engagement, not a contingency arranged afterwards.

Will you sign a non-disclosure agreement?

Yes. Send yours with your inquiry and we will review it before any detail is discussed.

Where is the company registered?

Northlight LLC is a limited liability company registered in the State of Wyoming, United States. The registered office is 30 N Gould St Ste N, Sheridan, WY 82801, United States. Full details are on the legal information page.

Does this website track me?

No. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, carries no advertising trackers and loads nothing from third-party servers — the typefaces are served from this domain rather than a font CDN. The only data that reaches us is what you type into a form and send. See the privacy policy.

How quickly do you reply?

Within one business day. The studio works remotely with clients across time zones, in English or German.
